"This employee says that despite statements from the Obama Administration, such information was flagged and given higher priority during the Bush Administration, but that since the changeover 'we are encouraged to not create the appearance that we are profiling or targeting Muslims. I think career employees were uncomfortable with the Bush procedures and policies and were relieved to not have to live under them any longer.' "
The Obama administration is learning the hard way that the risk of Islamic terrorism remains real and that the success of the Bush administration in avoiding another successful attack on American soil after 9/11 was partly due to extreme watchfulness.
We can only hope that the attempted Christmas day plane bombing serves as a major teachable moment at the White House. There won't be many more chances to get it right before lives are lost.

Bring back Dick Cheney!

First of all, I don't believe that statement (besides, who were they quoting?) and second, even if it were true, the person should have been removed from their job!
People in intelligence have a job to do to keep America safe. They have sworn an allegiance to do so. Most people understand the true Islamic attitude toward any so-called "non-believer". Mix in the radical nature of that faith, and the added hate and jealousy, you get people trying to kill us in any way possible.
Taking a defensive posture merely enforces these peoples resolve. They feel they have our backs to the wall, and that we are gutless and will do nothing against them.
If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, walks like a duck, it's a duck, no profiling involved. It's time we accept we will never be liked by the world but we darn well ought to be respected! Respect is what Obama is doing away with.
You're right. Bring back Cheney. He understood our enemy and knew how to deal with them!

I agree; but "they" already hated us. Enter, the unmanned drone. The intended or unintended consequences of employing such a weapon ought to be fully considered. Is discretion truly the better part of valor? Or do we climb the rigging and yell, Damn the torpedoes ... full speed ahead. If it's the latter, as I suspect, then thumbing one's nose at the enemy, while leaving the backdoor open, might prove a tad foolhardy: http://theseedsof9-11.com
