Because he criticized Obama's "housing plan"
Here’s the venomous response from the White House press secretary Gibbs today, Feb 20.
"I'm not entirely sure where Mr. Santelli lives, or in what house he lives, but the American people are struggling every day to meet their mortgage, stay in their job, pay their bills, to send their kids to school, and to hope that they don't get sick or that somebody they care for gets sick and sends them into bankruptcy... “
{Note from DemocracyRules – Yes, Gibbs, the USA is the richest nation in human history. But according to you, they are all starving, grovelling outside your door for a crust of bread. By the way, where do you live?}
“... I think we left a few months ago the adage that, if it was good for a derivatives trader, that it was good for Main Street. I think the verdict is in on that."
{From DR – Yes Gibbs. Don’t you just hate free enterprise?}
"Every day when I come out here, I spend a little time reading, studying on the issues, asking people who are smarter than I am questions about those issues... I would encourage him to read the president's plan and understand that it will help millions of people, many of whom he knows. I'd be more than happy to have him come here and read it. I'd be happy to buy him a cup of coffee. Decaf...."
{From DR – But how, exactly, are people supposed to read the plan? Obama violated his own campaign promise to post all upcoming bills on the White House website for at least five full days before he signed the bill. This was not done for the stimulus bill (or any other Obama bill), and I doubt this housing bill will be open to public scrutiny either.}
"Let me do this, too. This is a copy of the president's home affordability plan. It's available on the White House Web site, and I would encourage him, download it, hit print, and begin to read it."
{From DR-- But that's not the version which will pass Congress. Economists already predict the total price will be $275 BILLION. Once we know the details of the bill that passes in Congress, we will probably hate it more. And that’s why the final version will be passed into law without proper public scrutiny.}
"It's tremendously important that for people who rant on cable television to be responsible and understand what it is they're talking about... I feel assured that Mr. Santelli doesn't know what he's talking about."
{From DR – But Gibbs just admitted he’s ignorant himself: ‘Every day when I come out here, I spend a little time reading, studying on the issues, asking people who are smarter than I am questions about those issues’ Gibbs thinks it requires abstruse economic knowledge to know you can’t borrow yourself out of debt.}
The Gibbs attack is here:
Pro Patria
Everyone who criticizes anything that Obama does is not intelligent, or lives somewhere other than the places the rest of America lives, or has some other type of non-negotiable problem, that they simply can't find their way to understand how the system works.....
Because no one lets anyone know how the system is going to work from now on, they just throw a dart at the dart board and hope it lands in the right sector and something pops up to lay some help on someone, anyone, everyone....
Without respect to those who are paying the bills that will come due, or the ones who are just using the system to "get" what they think they deserve.

Hey, do I get a tax deduction for all the mortgages I'm helping to pay for? And, since I'm part owner, can I invite myself in for a cup of coffee? Can I dictate the landscaping design? How about the deed, can I be on that too? What if the people still default after we help pay the mortgage?
From what I hear regarding last years $350 million that went to help "bail out people with mortgage problems", months later those people were still in default. So you see, throwing money at it won't fix it. It's a people problem, the people won't pay for the homes they purchased. Once their free money is gone, they will still be out of their homes. Then what? Money wasted, homes still foreclosed on.
This is just plain stupid. They admit people everywhere are struggling to pay for their homes, yet this stupid administration is going to take more money from the people who ARE making the payments and are giving it to those who AREN'T making payments. So now EVERYONE ends up losing their homes.
It's time to stop the thievery!!!! We must tell them NO!!
