"I will fight to my last breath..."
Well, OK, but brush your teeth first, because you're going to be talking for a long time...
Blago says he's going to rely on the truth as his main defense strategy. But then the trial would last about five minutes.
As a general rule, the cost of a criminal defense is inversely proportional to the strength of the prosecution's case. So Blago will need money, lots of money. He has already spent many hundreds of thousands on legal matters, because he has been under investigation for about five years.
That's probably why he's been caught on tape complaining of financial distress. He has refused to pay a $500,000 legal debt to his previous lawyers.
So he stiffed his lawyers and got a new one. Blago could very easily spend more on lawyers than he has ever earned in his life, including the shady income. And he will probably still lose, unless he can somehow get the taped evidence thrown out of court.
That looks like an expensive long-shot to me. He may soon wind up in solitary, like Rezko, thinking of plea bargaining.
Now if Blago generates a lot noise about this case, Obama will inevitably be named very publicly, very often, and in many shady ways.
So is Blago implicitly demanding a golden parachute from Obama to go down quietly, and name only the non-Obama co-conspirators?
Fitzgerald has probably already seen this coming.
One thing for sure, Blago is NOT NUTS. He's just dishonest, and often has trouble reasoning clearly.
