Obama said in the past that he doesn't want coal generation. Then in the debates he said he's in favor of coal. Joe Biden did the same thing. First he said no to coal, then he said yes to coal.
This video shows how Obama can have it both ways.
Obama doesn't say "no" to coal. Instead, he says he will ensure a massive "carbon tax" on coal-based electrical generation. Coal generators will have to pay huge taxes because of imaginary and unproven "carbon costs" to the environment. Right now, the earth is cooling rapidly.
In the video Obama explicitly says the tax will bankrupt electrical generation companies which continue to use coal.
Thus, in the debates, Obama said "yes" to coal in a very technical financial sense. That is, "yes" if you can find a way to avoid going bankrupt. In the debates, Obama and Biden didn't mention the huge carbon taxes they are planning.
If coal generators go bankrupt, the US will lose 50% of it's electrical generation capacity. Coal mining will also shut down because the coal market will tank.
Energy shortages combined with rising energy costs would likely produce the same type of "stagflation" (stagnation + inflation) that Jimmy Carter invented. In the midst of an OPEC oil embargo, and gasoline rationing in the US, Carter capitulated to OPEC. He went on TV to solemnly explain that the days of cheap energy were over, and the US would never be as prosperous as it once was.
Decades later, someone discovered that Islamist investors had bailed out Carter's bankrupt peanut farm.
Obama's bottom line? "Yes to bankrupting coal-based energy generators, yes to bankrupting coal miners."
In Canada, the federal Liberals just suffered their worst electoral defeat in a century. They were decimated. Their key campaign proposal was a new "carbon tax".
Palin slammed Obama about this video today.
Today Obama whines that he has been taken out of context. What context, exactly, would ameliorate the impact of,"So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can,” Obama said. “It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted."
