Solving this "crisis" is not complicated at all. Everyone who wants to conserve anything can do so. They have free will and democratic rights. If they want to renounce automobiles they can do so. If fact if they strongly believe that motorized vehicles are bad, I encourage them to give them up. They should be in good faith with their own conscience.
If some people want to live entirely off the electrical grid, let them do so. Anyone who would prefer to walk or bicycle can do so. People who want to use cotton diapers can do so. Anyone who wants to live in a cabin in the woods and live off the land should do so.
People who object to Coca Cola or politically incorrect coffee can renounce it. Vegetarians should have at it. People who will only eat Halal bacon should be encouraged. Vegans can eat vegan food all day.
People who want to make houses out of rammed earth or compressed garbage or recycled sewage should do so, so long as their projects meet local building codes.
People can commute to work via electric cars, steam tractors, unicycles, roller skates, or by crawling like an inchworm.
If in fact, as the MSM proclaims, the vast majority of Americans hunger insatiably for the green lifestyle, then I encourage them to get busy right now. If 150 million Americans are chomping at the bit to recycle, reuse, and reboot, then great. Let them do it to the full. America could reduce its oil consumption in half if 150 million Americans stopped using oil. Electricity use would plummet if millions took up living in holes in the ground.
Food costs would decline dramatically if millions became vegans and lived on sawdust. CO2 emissions would drop substantially with no change to any laws.
Of course these lifestyle changes should be voluntary, as they should be in a free country. No one should be forced to conserve energy or other resources if they don't want to. Given that Canada has more than 7 times the oil reserves of Saudi Arabia, the USA is unlikely to run out of oil, ever. Oil will be obsolete before the supplies are exhausted.
Besides, if half the population are commuting to work as inchworms, the global warming heretics can be zooming along on empty roads in their SUVs. Free choice is what it's all about.
Energy saving fanatics should be encouraged at every turn, to be as fanatical as they want to be. It is their right so long as they do no infringe on the rights of others. The less energy they use, the more there will be for the rest of us.
Of course, millions inch-worming to work, eating sawdust and living in holes, would present many golden commercial opportunities. Ingenious thinkers could invent an electro-mechanical robot pig made of tofu. When you take it to the slaughter house, you just turn it off.
We could sell roller knee-pads to inch-worm commuters. Laxatives to sawdust-eating vegans. Insulated cave liners for those who live in holes in the ground. Medicines to treat frost-bite, hand-crank TV's, solar-driven laptops, the potential markets are enormous.

This is one of the funniest things I have read all week. :)

Although your suggestions are on the button, the Lefties will never agree. It's you they want to hold down and strangle. Never themselves. Too bad, too. It would be a relief to watch them struggle as their ancestors did 2,000 years ago.
And serve 'em right!
