This is terrible news for Socialists. Poverty is disappearing throughout the USA. Recently I wrote how the POOR ARE GETTING RICHER.
Lies The Leftists Told Me -- Part 1
This is a spreading epidemic in the Western World. The Canadian poor are vanishing too. In spite of the best efforts of leftist Canadian politicians to block Capitalism entirely, Reaganomics has crossed the border. Canada’s National Post reports that the Canadian poor are getting jobs at an alarming rate.
The Poverty Industry's Latest Numbers Game:
Absolute poverty focuses on people who do not have enough money to eat properly, clothe themselves adequately, or live in safe secure housing. Instead, Statistics Canada focuses on people below a ‘Low-Income Cut-Off’ (LICO). Families in an area are asked about their income and the percent they spend on necessities. If a family exceeds this by 20 percentage points or more, they are below ‘LICO’. This leaves out a few details, but it’s the gist of LICO.

Since 1996, Canada’s below-LICO rate has dropped from 16% to 11%. Only 6.1% over 65 are below LICO, and child poverty is dropping too. Single mothers have dropped from 52.7% to 29.1% below LICO, mostly by finding work, and work with better pay. Their payments from government have gone from 60% to 25% of income.
National Post
This is awful news for Socialists, because many Socialists live off the money that is taken away from the rich. Then they ‘give’ it to the poor, but cream off a lot of it in administering social programs, funding for anti-poverty groups, etc. In the end, most social spending goes to the Middle Class, and most Socialists are middle class.

For example, universal daycare would pay for daycare for all social classes, but only 11% of Canada’s population are below the LICO level. Thus, about 89% of the beneficiaries of universal daycare would be the middle and upper classes. Socialists who work in administering social programs get paid from this type of redistributed wealth. They also get access to the social programs that are available to the middle class. They also vote Socialist in elections.
Lies The Leftists Told Me -- Part 2
Middle class Socialists are a large and influential political group compared to the Canadian poor. The poor have very little political power and they vote inconsistently They mainly comprise some aboriginals, the undereducated, the mentally ill, the physically handicapped, and some immigrants. This exposes another problem for Socialists. The poor are not the victims of ruthless capitalism, they’re just hard to employ. They’re also hard to employ in Socialist countries.

Here’s the crisis: if the poor keep disappearing like this, how will Socialists be able to justify their own existence?

On a related note, consider how the definitions of poverty vary from country to country. On the basis of material wealth, poor people in the cold, capitalist US are far better off than regular people the more egalitarian, socialist EU.
