You probably know by now that Democratic Senator Tim Johnson was hospitalized today for a possible stroke. The latest update from a Johnson spokesperson was that Johnson did not suffer a stroke or heart attack. Details here.
Unanswered is the question of what Johnson did suffer from, that caused him to stumble in response to questions from reporters today, resulting in an ambulance trip to the hospital.
Johnson's illness has some speculating upon the possible impact on control of the Senate. Since we have no diagnosis, it's too early for anything other than wild guesses at this point. Certainly nobody wishes Senator Johnson anything other than a speedy recovery. More reaction is at Captain's Quarters, Wizbang and Michelle Malkin.
This event does underscore the fact that the margin of Democratic control in the Senate is very thin.
Update 1: Reuters reports that Senator Johnson has already undergone surgery of an unspecified nature.
Update 2: It is now reported that Tim Johnson suffered bleeding in the brain caused by a congenital arteriovenous malformation and is in critical condition following successful late-night surgery.
