More horrors of Saddam Hussein-era Iraq have been revealed at the continuing trial of Hussein and co-defendants.
SADDAM Hussein's genocide trial resumed last night, a day after he was thrown out of court as Kurdish women told of savage rapes, murders and other horrors in Iraqi death camps described as "like Doomsday".
One woman, speaking from behind a curtain to preserve her anonymity, had told of how her family was captured by Iraqi forces in April 1988.
Her grandmother died in the prison camp, while she witnessed terrible atrocities.
A warder who groped prisoners' breasts one day caught a beautiful young woman, she said.
"He caught her and told her: 'You are mine.'
"She spat in his face," she said. "He tore her clothes and raped her in front of her parents.
"Then he shot her. She remained alive for several minutes and then died."
Another witness, again shielded by a curtain, said prisoners attacked the rapist after another victim committed suicide.
But they were savagely beaten as punishment.
A defiant Saddam then shouted a verse from the Koran -- "Fight them, and God will make you victorious".
Judge Mohammed al-Oreibi al-Khalifah cut off his microphone. But when he then ejected a protesting Saddam, his co-defendants leapt up to denounce the judge.
Hussein Rashid al-Tikriti branded the prosecution "pimps and traitors" and punched a bailiff who tried to restrain him. He too was ejected.
A third defendant, Ali Hassan al-Majid, declared: "I want to see the sentence passed now. I wish to be executed and finish with this court."
Prosecutors say 182,000 Kurds were killed in death camps, bombings and poison gas attacks.
There were so many atrocities during Saddam's regime that I've lost count.
Terrorist "insurgents" are doing their best to heed Saddam Hussein's call and continue the torture, murder and mayhem in Iraq, but thankfully the forces fighting this evil are not going anywhere.
