What an embarrassment!
The Democratic Party has an official web page supposedly showing that it supports "our" veterans and military families. But Michelle Malkin noticed that something seemed strange about the photograph of a soldier shown prominently near the top of the web page.
Notice the solider in the lower left hand corner above the words "GET INVOLVED"? Do his uniform and cap seem a little unusual to you?
That's because the soldier shown on the Democratic Party web page is a Canadian soldier.
A Little Green Footballs reader found the original photograph:

Notice that, in the photo used at the Democratic Party website, a badge on the soldier's cap was photoshopped away and the soldier's medals were cropped out of the picture.
Here's a photograph of other Canadian soldiers in uniform for comparison:
Notice that the red wreath, the collar and tie, the cut of the jacket lapels and the front right pocket are all the same.
Captain's Quarters ties a bow around the whole embarrassing mess.
If voters are to believe that the Democrat Party supports America's soldiers and veterans, perhaps the Democratic Party should start by showing that it actually knows what an American soldier looks like.
Update 10/8/06: It gets worse. Captain's Quarters notes that the photo of a Canadian soldier has been replaced by -- not a photo of an American soldier -- but a picture of a piece of the American flag. Talk about hiding behind the flag!
Wow.. I don't even know what to say about this one.. It's cool to show that we're friends with other countries, but favoring Canadian troops over our own is a bit rediculous.

Many Democrat members must have lived, at least a short time, in Canada or the UK. Such people would have recognized the Remembrance-Day poppy instantly. In Canada, half the people and all of the politicians wear them in early November. And there's no mistaking it in the picture - it's the first thing you see.
A mistake is (somewhat) understandable, but it should have been recognized and fixed within 15 minutes of appearing on the site. Why the delay?
