Little Green Footballs reports that, at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Somali Muslim cab drivers are refusing taxi service to passengers carrying alcohol.
The airports commission is accepting this refusal, and giving special instructions to taxi starters at curbside.
The airports commission has struggled with the issue for several years. Alcohol is a serious concern for devout Muslims, said Hassan Mohamud, an imam and vice president of the society. The Qur’an, Islam’s holy book, strictly forbids buying, selling, drinking or carrying alcohol.
Now here's an idea: Let's also respect the right of those who object on Christian religious grounds to selling morning after pills or to placing children for adoption by gays.
If we are going to defer on matters of religious conscience (and I think we should, especially when there are plenty others who can provide the same goods or services), then that deference cannot work only in favor of Muslims.
