It was in September 2002 that Russian technicians began construction of Iran's first nuclear reactor at Bushehr despite strong objections from United States.
In September 2003, the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency, IAEA, gave Tehran weeks to prove it was not pursuing an atomic weapons program.
In June 2004, Iran was rebuked by the IAEA for failing to fully cooperate with an inquiry into its nuclear activities.
In October 2004, Iran voted to resume uranium enrichment while shouting "Death to America!"
In August 2005, Iran said that it had resumed uranium conversion at its Isfahan plant.
So where are we now?
Did the European Union and United Nations take this sitting down?
Well, actually, yes.
Despite months and years of ineffectual words from the U.N. and its so-called "watchdog," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday that Iran will stick to its nuclear plans.
He spoke as senior foreign affairs officials from the five veto-holding U.N. Security Council powers and Germany were to meet to try to break the impasse over Iran's nuclear ambitions.
The Council has been unable for nearly two weeks to issue a statement telling Iran to halt uranium enrichment efforts which the West believes are a cover for bomb making. Iran says its nuclear program is simply for generating electricity.
I think we need pictures to help us fully visualize what is going on here:
