Things should move along more smoothly now that Saddam Hussein has decided not to attend his own trial, according to an AP report.
Good riddance. Hope he sticks with that decision.
And I must have missed this in yesterday's news coverage and blogging about Saddam Hussein's trial. Saddam Hussein doesn't only consider it "terrorism" to be denied exercise, a change of clothes and a shower. No, terrorism also includes being denied the the right to smoke.
"Saddam, dressed again in a dark suit and white shirt and clutching a Quran, complained that he and the seven other defendants were tired and had been deprived of opportunities to shower, have a change of clothes, exercise or smoke.
"This is terrorism," he declared."
This has to have some Bush critics conflicted. On the one hand, any enemy of George Bush is a friend of theirs, sort of. (What do a few thousand tortures and executions really amount to, anyway? Isn't that what you expect from an absolute dictator?) Besides, as long as Saddam Hussein is tailored ("Read Between the Pinstripes: Saddam Still Cuts a Figure") and well-dressed, then by definition he is a sophisticate, and vastly superior to any Neanderthal such as the president of the United States.
But now we know -- Saddam Hussein also smokes.
That is pretty much the last straw.
I would not want to be his lawyer at this point.

I wouldn't want to be his lawyer either, considering two of them have been murdered, and a judge threatened with assassination, in an attempt to stop the trial. Looking at this madman in court, one could say that we did find and remove at least one "weapon of mass destruction" in Iraq.
