Polar Bears Grow Bitter

By DemocracyRules

Polarbeartongue They dislike all this delighted environmentalist Schadenfreude about their demise.  They take it personally.  In fact, Polar Bear Backlash may be building.  Polar Bear numbers have increased substantially since their extinction was falsely declared imminent.

The male Polar Bears may be compounding the situation.  As their numbers grow, males may have figured out that this also means more female Polar Bears.  The females can help the males reverse this little extinction problem.  The opportunity for revenge has begun to uh, present itself...

Reaction to Gore's Attempt to Blame Global Warming for Deadly Cyclones in Myanmar

Can you think of a good word to describe Al Gore opportunistic attempt to blame man-made global warming for the cyclones have killed and injured tens of thousands in Burma?

How about "nauseating?"

Check out the remarks of Marc Sheppard at American Thinker.

As Temperatures Drop, Global Warming Alarmists Scramble to Hedge Their Bets

DemocracyRules has done a terrific job of summing up the implications of the lastest signs of serious problems with global warming theory, and my own modest contribution is here.  Now along comes Marc Sheppard at American Thinker with another thump on the head for the global warming alarmists:  Are Global Warmists Pulling a Cool Fast One?  Here's a snippet from the opening:

Mounting evidence of lower temperature trends despite rising atmospheric CO2 levels is becoming a real problem for the greenhouse gas crowd.  And reports that the cooling appears to follow a period of dormant solar activity aren't likely to ease their anxieties.

Indeed, without an immediate alarmist course correction, years of "the science is settled" campaigning could prove for naught, as prolonged temperature dips decimate the primary anthropogenic argument. After all, Lord Gore has shouted the IPCC's proclamation of a 0.3°C warming over the next decade from virtually every rooftop.  Given new data projecting the contrary, he and his green hordes will need to find a way to not only explain the error, but keep the AGW dream alive.

And here's a snippet from the end:

Is anyone else noticing a trend developing here, beyond the "we never said that warming patterns would be steady" shuffle?  Each explanation, whether by Willis, Keenlyside and Latif, Wood, or Trenberth implies that some climate forces natural are more formidable than those anthropogenic. This is yet another precarious admission, indeed - one unlikely to be made were the alternative not somehow more damaging to their cause.

Now consider this --  it remains an alarmist imperative to disassociate falling global temperatures and speculation of a possible impending "little ice age" with the yellow dwarf star we orbit in general and the late start of Solar Cycle 24 specifically.  For indeed, if we are moving into another solar minimum cycle and global temperatures continue to plummet while atmospheric CO2 levels continue to rise, attendance at Al Gore's Scare-Story-Slide-Shows would quickly drop to close friends and family only.  And with boat loads of very bad wealth-redistribution "climate change" legislation to pass in coming the years, a sympathetically alarmed press and populace remain essential during that time.

So what better way to buy time than to cloud the obvious solar connection by sacrificing their argument against a less threatening naturally occurring force?  And then attributing that force to occasional periods of cooling by collectively admitting to its mitigating impact upon AGW forces?   Especially when this little gambit allows them to continue reaping the benefits - for years to come - of the lie that an unchecked anthropogenic greenhouse gas effect threatens to literally destroy us all.

CO2 Climate Forcing - Not

By DemocracyRules

Gina, I know you just posted about this, but please let me weigh in too.  This is HUGE.

Now NASA is saying it could get colder for the next 30 years.

But I thought CO2 was causing climate forcing?  That is, in spite of the influences of many climate-related variables, CO2 should win out, and keep pushing temperatures ever higher.  But it didn't.

Forcing
is the very essence of the Anthropogenic Global Warming argument.  Atmospheric CO2 is rising at a steady rate.  Why is it not forcing temperature change?  Many scientists said CO2 would not force climate change, but they were ignored.  Now we see they were right.  If CO2 can't (or won't) cause temperature increase, then it's by definition not a very strong force.  In fact CO2 levels  seem UNRELATED to global temperature.

The 'forcing' effects of CO2 are being overwhelmed by normal variations in ocean currents and sunlight changes.

I call for a moratorium on ALL GLOBAL WARMING LAWS and POLICIES until we know what's going on.

-- JUNK ALL climate models.  None are even remotely accurate.
-- No more Kyoto at all.  Stop all efforts at compliance.
-- No more carbon credits
-- No more punishing individuals, corporations and countries for producing CO2
-- END the Farce of having the UN study climate change
-- Carefully review how scientists got things so badly wrong, including:

    1. Sea level has not changed measurably since the scare began.  Why was this ignored?

    2. Surface temperature data has been collected from little weather stations which are obviously inaccurate.  Almost all of them are situated in places that are warming up because of human activity.  Why was this ignored?

   3. Polar ice
caps have been expanding and contracting normally.  Why was this portrayed as a catastrophe?

    4. Polar bears are not endangered, and they never were.  Why was this not accurately reported?

    5. The effect of sunlight
was repeatedly dismissed by climate modelers.  They claimed the forcing effects of CO2 were  more important than sunlight changes. Almost all the heat in the earth's atmosphere comes from the sun. Why was sunlight ignored?

    6. The effect of high-level clouds
was repeatedly dismissed by climate modelers.  They claimed the forcing effects of CO2 were  more important than high-level cloud.  However, scientists have observed that if high-level clouds evaporate when the earth heats, then the heat escapes into space.  In other words, the planet self-regulates it's temperature like a thermostat.  Why was the moderating effect of high-level cloud evaporation ignored?

   7. Anyone who expressed doubts
about global warming was dismissed, called a denier, crazy, refused research funding, publicly shouted down, and sometimes forcibly removed from research meetings. Some were prosecuted under the law.  Why was disagreement suppressed?

CONCLUSIONS

-- We must continue research funding for global weather and climate change.

-- We must stop wasting time on controlling CO2 emissions, and we must stop it immediately.

-- We need to go back to the basics of environmentalism.  This includes keeping controls on air and water pollution and maintaining habitats for threatened species.  We must use DDT in large quantities to kill malarial mosquitoes.  We must use as much nuclear power as possible, and make electricity cheap and plentiful.

-- We should increase clean-coal electrical generation, and limit petroleum-fired electrification.  We are locked in conflict with several petroleum-producing countries, and it is best to reduce our use of petroleum.

Pro Patria, and may we never let ourselves be railroaded by such fools ever again.

Ignore the Dropping Temperatures, We're Still Doomed by Global Warming

Here we go again.  Temperatures in North America and Europe may be -- uh, cooler, for the next 10 years -- but don't worry -- we're still all doomed by global warming!

Parts of North America and Europe may cool naturally over the next decade, as shifting ocean currents temporarily blunt the global-warming effect caused by mankind, Germany's Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences said.

Average temperatures in areas such as California and France may drop over the next 10 years, influenced by colder flows in the North Atlantic, said a report today by the institution based in Kiel, Germany. Temperatures worldwide may stabilize in the period.

The study was based on sea-surface temperatures of currents that move heat around the world, and vary from decade to decade. This regional cooling effect may temporarily neutralize the long- term warming phenomenon caused by heat-trapping greenhouse gases building up around the earth, said Richard Wood, a research scientist at the Met Office Hadley Centre, a U.K. provider of environmental and weather-related services.

``Those natural climate variations could be stronger than the global-warming trend over the next 10-year period,'' Wood said in an interview. ``Without knowing that, you might erroneously think there's no global warming going on.''

The Leibniz study, co-written by Noel Keenlyside, a research scientist at the institute, will be published in the May 1 issue of the journal Nature.

``If we don't experience warming over the next 10 years, it doesn't mean that greenhouse-gas warming is not with us,'' Keenlyside said in an interview. ``There can be natural fluctuations that may mask climate change in the short term.''

CO2 Surge

Carbon dioxide, produced mainly from burning fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas, is the chief pollutant blamed for global warming. Since 1988, CO2 levels in the world's skies have increased by 9.8 percent, according to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Scientists debate how much carbon can be pumped into the atmosphere before the effects of climate change, including droughts, floods and reduced fresh water supplies, become irreversible. For every 1 million molecules in the atmosphere, about 384 are carbon dioxide, according to NOAA.

Global temperatures can't rise by more than 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) without risking the worst effects of climate change, according to the European Union. A scenario to stay below that limit suggests that CO2 levels must be stabilized between 350 and to 400 parts per million.

Long-term climate changes in the North Atlantic region affect ``hurricane activity in the Atlantic, and surface temperature and rainfall variations over North America, Europe and northern Africa,'' according to the study.

`Cold Direction'

``Natural variations over the next 10 years might be heading in the cold direction,'' Wood said. ``If you run the model long enough, eventually global warming will win.'"

Wow, that's an interesting way to try to insulate global warming theory against any actual facts on the ground.  Why, if the strategy works, you can buy 10 more years of alarmism, overregulation, and global brainwashing before global warming theory becomes patently laughable and is thrown into the dustbin of historical curiosities.

And what if temperatures rise in North America and Europe for the next 10 years, then begin to fall?  Will that prove your theory wrong, Mr. Keenlyside?  Or is every temperature change, up or down, merely proof of the accuracy of the global warming model?

Two Years Ago Today on GINA COBB: Did Global Warming End Eight Years Ago?

Originally published on April 10, 2006:  Did Global Warming End Eight Years Ago?

Bob Carter writes in the Telegraph that there is a problem with global warming -- it ended in 1998:

For many years now, human-caused climate change has been viewed as a large and urgent problem. In truth, however, the biggest part of the problem is neither environmental nor scientific, but a self-created political fiasco. Consider the simple fact, drawn from the official temperature records of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, that for the years 1998-2005 global average temperature did not increase (there was actually a slight decrease, though not at a rate that differs significantly from zero).

If Global Temperatures Are Rising, Why Are the Oceans Cooling?

Here's a puzzlement for global warming alarmists to ponder:

Why haven't the earth's oceans warmed at all since we've started tracking ocean temperature in 2003?

In fact, why is the ocean cooling?
