Please rate the following individuals for their physical attractiveness.  These are all adult models, and feel free to consider the person's sexiness as part of your judgment.  This is just a simple honest appraisal of attractiveness, forget about anything politically correct or whatever.  Please do the attractiveness rating whether you are male/female, gay/straight.  Rate the image on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being 'not at all attractive', to 'extremely attractive'.

The ‘Raglan Pullover Study’ – Conclusion

By DemocracyRules

300x250_feb_08_hiphopfemale_2 I saw this ad on an online New York newspaper.  I have nothing specific against American Apparel or the way they advertise things.  Their ads seem typical.  I thought she looks 14 because her hands seem very childlike.  I don’t know her real age.

I’m a man, I have no difficulty noticing attractive women.  I do it all the time without any effort at all.  However if a sexy model looks 14, it bothers me.  It seems illogical. Given that pedophilia is bad, then girls under a certain age should not be publicly displayed in sexually arousing ways.  It’s hard to stop pedophilia if we encourage it at the same time.

Gina Cobb readers said she should look at least 19 for this ad.  Readers estimated she looked 18, but about half thought she was younger than that.  They thought it was “somewhat likely” that this ad would arouse a pedophile (On a scale of 1 to 10, the average was 5.6).

The most surprising part of this mini-study was researching “the age of consent”.  Each US state has their own, varying from about 14 to 18 with differences in what they mean by it. Canada sets it federally, and we just raised it to 16 or 18 (depending...).  Since 1890 it had been 14.  I won’t philosophize much on the morality because I’m not a particularly good moral philosopher and my opinions are pretty average.  However, to me the age should be 18 for being openly sexual.  What kids do among themselves is a different and very complicated matter.

Won’t it be easier to stop pedophilia if we’re really clear about when and where to draw the line?  Comments?

Would This Arouse a Pedophile?

By DemocracyRules

Thank you for reading and responding to my two previous posts about this!  I have one final question, then we can discuss.  Here it is, and by now you can figure out what my questions are about.  That's OK, just answer the question honestly, and the results will be fine, you'll see.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely is it that this ad would be sexually arousing to a pedophile?  More precisely, I mean this definition of a pedophile: [Webster's dictionary -- Pedophilia, noun -- "Sexual perversion in which children are the preferred sexual object."] .  Both men and women can be pedophiles.

You will have to use your own judgment whether this is a picture of a child or not.  Here are some anchor points on the scale:

1 = not at all likely to be sexually arousing to a pedophile;

5 = somewhat likely to be sexually arousing to a pedophile;

10 = certain to be sexually arousing to a pedophile.  You may choose any number on the 1 to 10 scale.

Please give your own opinion.  It doesn't have to be politically correct or anything.  Just click on what you think is true.  Here's the picture.  Click on it to see a larger version.

What Minimum Age Should She Look?

by DemocracyRules

I recently posted this picture.  Thank you so much for your strong response!  I have a new question about it, and later, we can discuss it.

In your personal opinion, please indicate the minimum age this person SHOULD APPEAR to be in this ad.  Just estimate the minimum age she should LOOK, not how old she should actually BE.  Consider the whole context of the ad, including how everything looks, the clothes she is wearing, and how she is wearing them.  Click on the photo to enlarge it.

Please click on your choice before viewing the results.  You may choose only one.  Remember you are not estimating "how old she should be." You are stating the minimum age she SHOULD APPEAR to be in the photograph. This is strictly your own opinion. Neither over-estimate or under-estimate.

Hand Her an Oscar; Suddenly She's an Expert on Everything

Best actress Oscar winner Marion Cotillard says the 9/11 attacks were made up and that the World Trade Center towers were destroyed because they were obsolete.

Oh -- and she also questions the 1969 moon landing.

Clearly, being a logical thinker is not a prerequisite to achieving the highest levels of peer recognition in Hollywood.

This is a good iillustration of the potential hazards of listening to experts on subjects outside their areas of expertise.

If you want good advice on how to become an award-winning actor, ask Ms. Cotillard.  But if you want good advice on the worldside Islamic jihad or the space program, she clearly is not your go-to gal.  For that you're going to need someone who actually has a clue.

Two Years Ago Today on GINA COBB: A "Phobia" Is Nothing to Be Afraid Of

Originally posted on February 23, 2006:  A "Phobia" Is Nothing to Be Afraid Of

A "Phobia" Is Nothing to Be Afraid Of

A columnist in the United Arab Emirates is accusing the West of "Islamophobia" for objecting to the proposed takeover of operations at six major American ports by an Arab company owned by the UAE.  "Islamophobia is rising and has become like an infectious disease that spreads... in the West," wrote columnist Rashid Saleh al-Oraimy in the UAE daily Gulf News this week, according to reports.  Other columnists, like Mansoor Ijaz at National Review Online, are joining in the chorus of Islamophobia.  Michelle Malkin notes that the cries of Islamophobia are beginning intimidate some into backing down on the ports issue.

Well, that settles it for me!  I wouldn't want to be guilty of "Islamophobia" -- something akin to an "infectious disease!"  I'll have to abandon any reservations I've had about the port deal and get on board immediately.

Or not.  Actually, as someone who has previously spoken out against pointless ridicule of Mohammed and pointless alienation of our Muslim allies and in favor of showing religious tolerance even toward Islam, I am immune from legitimate charges of "Islamophobia."

I will, however, confess to a bad case of "terroristophobia," which I share with every sane human being, including decent Muslims and rational people around the world.  Hence my continued concerns about the proposed takeover of American ports by a United Arab Emirates company.  The UAE, after all, is closely allied with sworn enemies of the United States.  It merits a closer look than it has yet received.

Another School Shooting? Time to Try Something Different

When what you're doing isn't working, try something different.

As the latest shooting at Northern Illinois University demonstrates, declaring college campuses and schools "gun-free zones" doesn't prevent mass shootings.  Police simply can't get to the scene of shootings fast enough to prevent the taking of several lives by a quick, determined attacker.

More and more people are asking the question:  Is it time to try something completely different, like allowing students and faculty to carry concealed weapons on campus?
