Obama OK’s Embryo Research, Two Days Later Signs Law Banning It.
This time I vote for Crazy.
On Monday March 9, Obama very publicly and ceremoniously reversed President Bush's 2001 executive order which banned federal funding for stem cell research that requires the destruction of human embryos.
Obama's executive order boasts, "The purpose of this order is to remove these limitations on scientific inquiry, to expand NIH support for the exploration of human stem cell research, and in so doing to enhance the contribution of America's scientists to important new discoveries and new therapies for the benefit of humankind."
He's pretty arrogant. Given the situation that Obama's mother was in when he was born, if he were an embryo today, he would be lucky to survive.
On Wednesday, March 11, in private, Obama signed the massive "Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009" (H.R. 1105). The bill included the annual appropriations for the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
For this and every fiscal year since 1996, the DHHS appropriations bill has banned federal funding of any "research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death." (page 280).
The omnibus bill will take precedence over the executive order. So Obama legalized human embryo stem cell research for two days.
Of course, MSM reporters missed the boat, but both sides of the house knew about the bombshell on page 280. The pro-life politicians made sure that clause stayed in there.
