I was not the only one who smelled a rat when the left-leaning MSM became psychotically pro-Obama, almost all channels, all the time. So I did some digging. On a scale of 1 to 100, with 1 being strong right, and 100 being strong left, the has MSM averages about 65. Obama is about 95. Although the MSM news staff lean very far left, the newspaper or network usually moderates their overall position to appeal to a wider audience.
But the MSM ignored their business model in this election and trashed McCain/Palin while idolizing Obama. This strategy was bound to alienate about 45% of their readers and viewers. I wondered why they did this, so I followed the money a bit.
Now it’s starting to make sense. First, the news today notes that Obama will dispense half the $700 billion rescue package when he takes over.
Second, there is news that the New York Times will be dead by Spring ‘09 without a major rescue effort. The NYT bonds are already junk-rated. Furthermore, the NYT will need constant care and attention. Clearly they no longer have a viable business model, but they are determined to keep doing it. The left-wing majority share-holder stands to lose the most if the NYT goes bust.
Of course, the publisher must have known about the imminent crisis for quite some time, and if McCain/Palin won, an ongoing bailout would have been very unlikely. The survival of the NYT is NOT vital for the US economy. But if Obama kept them alive, he might have his own personal newspaper. The NYT, sick as it is, still sets the tone for news in the US.
Similar dynamics prevail at MSNBC, CNBC, and NBC. They are failing month-by month, and they are doomed unless they change their business model. They are owned by GE, which also owns GE Capital, which is angling for bailout money. Clearly there are commercial consequences for the NBC franchise to push Obama like mad.
Of course GE could raise money by selling their losing TV franchises. Someone might buy them. Maybe a Japanese cigarette manufacturer which would get everyone on camera to smoke constantly?
How about the rest? Sorry, I smell more rats. For example, I don’t know why CNN sucks up to Obama, but I don’t like it, and I wish they would stop. Why did CNN interview a known unrepentant terrorist who had co-led a murderous gang which killed cops, dismembered bystanders, blinded an innocent person with acid, applauded Bobby Kennedy’s assassination, and planned in detail the overthrow of the US government?
Why? Well, Bill Ayers is a long-time friend of Obama. I could see why someone who needed a financial bailout would make friends with Bill Ayers. The network could help Ayers rehabilitate his reputation, (and Obama’s reputation), and help him sell his books. That might do a lot to curry Obama’s good opinion.
Rupert Murdoch keeps telling the MSM to stop fighting with their customers, but they are incorrigible. The leftist news media are dangerous enough without them being subsidized by the US government. They could effectively become civil servants, and they could dispense with business models entirely, like the socialist, fact-free BBC. Those in the MSM who constantly abuse, belittle and ignore their customer base deserve to fail, not live on in the government’s pocket.

William Ayers and the actions of a few had far reaching implications for an entire generation. That is to say, those Left wing insects gave us all a bad name.
As a result, the "establishment" as it were, tended to paint us all with the same brush. Ayers threatened the system; the system came down hard. Bill Ayers did far more damage to his own generation than might readily be imagined.
Good job Einstein. I heard the Terry Gross interview with Ayers on NPR, where the "distinguished professor" is pushing is lousy book.
