Newsweek finally prints Atlas Shrug's scoop
About one-half of Obama's campaign contributions (of approx $460 million) came from contributions of $200 or less. But among this $230 million, phony names and addresses abound. Fraudulent contributions are evident, and some have been traced to the Middle East. Foreign donations are prohibited.
This past summer, citizens' groups asked the campaigns to provide more information about their small donors. The McCain campaign agreed; the Obama campaign refused.
Obama is trying to brush the problem off as a few errant contributions. On the contrary, I think the burden of proof is on Obama. Contributions that cannot be proved to be legitimately made by documented American citizens should be confiscated by the Federal Electoral Commission.
