John McCain speaks for common sense.
The commies on the Canadian side don't like NAFTA either. Commies hate abundance, especially when it's produced by capitalism. Commies need scarcity, so they can keep a stranglehold on the people by controlling supply.
NAFTA benefits: (McCain covers many more)
(1) Planes, trains and automobiles are made and exchanged on both sides of the border. Ontario makes millions of automobiles for the U.S. market, with excellent quality and delivery times. Conversely, Canada buys millions of U.S. - made automobiles. This exchange creates a larger North American market for domestic autos, which also creates a bigger platform for export. The Ford Focus is all over Europe. Russia's largest source of auto imports are GM and Ford.
(2) The energy benefits are huge. The U.S. already sources more petroleum from Canada than any other foreign source, and we will double that within 10 years. We could ramp up production faster with more U.S. investment. Canada could become the sole supplier for U.S. petroleum imports. We love business as much as the U.S., and we deliver excellent product on time and on budget. We want to ramp it up ASAP, and the more Americans invest and help us, the sooner it will happen.
If the U.S. suddenly switches to nuclear power and electric cars, that's fine with Canada. We will too. McCain recently complained that the U.S. has lost the knowledge and infrastructure to build new nuclear stations en masse, but we are eager to help. We sell kick-ass nuclear reactors (CANDU) that are safe and state of the art.
We are the worlds' largest exporter of uranium, and our known uranium reserves are increasing rapidly. We also store nuclear waste, and have the technology to neutralize some nuclear waste.
If Canadian oil production is no longer needed by the U.S., we will sell it to China or India. Petroleum may become obsolete, but like coal before it, the demand for petroleum will remain high especially in third-world countries.
Remember the most recent research on global warming shows zero relationship with CO2 and global warming, but atmospheric CO2 clearly fosters global plant growth.
The Bakken Oil formation is huge and spans the U.S. Canada border. Pessimist 'peak-oil' pundits pontificate about "inflated claims" of proved reserves in Bakken. However, it is clear there is abundant oil there and money to be made from extracting it. The oil rigs rushing to South - Eastern Saskatchewan are not going there for the weather.
But Bakken is tricky, and requires rock-fracture technology to access it. Modern petroleum extraction technology began in Petrolia, Ontario. It makes good sense that our two huge nations should work ever more closely together to create prosperity for ourselves and the world.
NAFTA should stay. It's Obama who should go.
