Since lately we are being treated to near-daily alarmist reports of record high temperatures and melting icecaps (apparently offered as evidence that man-made global warming is real), I've decided that a little counterpoint is in order. It's time for a new semi-occasional feature: "Global Cooling Weather Watch."
Do record temperatures of one day, or one season, or even one decade, tell us anything useful about the overall direction of global climate change, let alone the causes of any such change?
No.
But if we're going to pretend that record high temperatures mean something, then by golly, let's worry about the record lows as well!
Today's report comes from Los Angeles:
A cold snap hit the Southland amid forecasts of record or near-record low temperatures Friday and Saturday night in metropolitan, coastal and valley areas of Los Angeles County.
I'm freezing just thinking about it.
