Does Appeasing Terrorism Destroy One's Soul?

Rick Moran at Right Wing Nut House asks:  "Does Confronting Terrorism Make It Worse?"  It's an interesting and thoughtful read.  In it, Moran responds to a National Intelligence Estimate report claiming that the Iraq war has increased the Islamist threat.  Captain's Quarters also takes on the NIE report.

But I have another question:

Does appeasing terrorism destroy one's soul?

There's something deeply wrong about appeasing or tolerating any form of tyranny. It rubs me the wrong way, and I am hardly alone in this.

My grandparents refused to submit to either Soviet or Nazi tyranny.  Confronted by forces stronger than themselves, they refused to cooperate and ultimately fled to America and to Canada.  As a result, their children, grandchidren, and great grandchildren are blessed to live in freedom and peace.

Fulfillment of the human longing for freedom is the reason America exists and the one of the fundamental reasons for its success.

Some in the West have forgotten what it means to live without freedom.  Perhaps their ancestors did not flee tyranny.  They take freedom for granted.  It is like the air they breathe.  The breathe in and out every day, every hour, and yet when someone threatens their freedom they think nothing of it.

They will not realize what they have lost until the air of freedom is sucked out of their lungs and they begin to suffocate.

Terrorism is just another form of tyranny:  A vicious, violent attempt by one group of thugs to impose its will on everyone around it.

The excuses for terrorism are as endless and varied as the excuses for tyranny.  There will always be another excuse.

I will never accept terrorism for the same reason my grandparents would never accept tyranny.  I will never appease terrorism for the same reason that millions have died fighting tyranny.

Every human soul longs for freedom.  Every human soul is born for freedom.

If you are willing to accept tyranny, then your soul is dying or already dead.

When confronted by terror or tyranny, there is only one sane response:

Resist.

Resist.

Resist.

Fight openly, fight covertly, or flee to live in freedom somewhere else.  But never accept tyranny or terror.

And when people in another part of the world fight for their precious freedom, then join them, support them, cheer them on, or at least get out of their way.
