Al Qaeda #2 Al Zawahiri Gone to Meet Allah?
. . . or maybe just gone to the store?
The latest update is that he was away during the attack.
The report yesterday was that Ayman al-Zawahiri may have been killed in an airstrike in Pakistan. Here's the original report:
"Today, according to Pakistani military sources, U.S. aircraft attacked a compound known to be frequented by high-level al Qaeda operatives. Pakistani officials tell ABC News that al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden's top lieutenant, may have been among them.
"U.S. intelligence for the last few days indicated that Zawahiri might have been in the location or about to arrive, although there is still no confirmation from U.S. officials that he was among the victims."
CNN reminds us that, "U.S. authorities believe al-Zawahiri, 54, a doctor from a prominent Egyptian family, helped mastermind the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks." More coverage at MSNBC.com.
Zawahiri is a most wanted terrorist with a $25 million bounty on his head (as noted by Michelle Malkin).
Just a week ago, Al Jazeera aired a video from Al Zawahiri in which he reportedly called on President Bush to admit defeat in Iraq. (I don't think Bush heard him.)
